AAFP News Now: AAFP denounces Congress for failing to repeal “crippling” SGR formula
On Feb. 17, both the U.S. House and Senate passed legislation to provide a 10-month extension of the current Medicare physician payment rate, and address tax relief and unemployment benefits. While the measure blocks the 27.4 percent Medicare payment reduction that was scheduled to take effect on March 1 as a result of the sustainable growth rate, or SGR formula, AAFP says a temporary fix merely “merely postpones the inevitable.” more...

AAFP News Now: HHS to delay ICD-10 implementation date
HHS has announced that the agency will delay implementation of the ICD-10-CM code set for outpatient diagnosis coding, and will announce a new compliance date “sometime in the future.” The original deadline to move from ICD-9 to ICD-10 – adding nearly 55,000 codes – was Oct. 1, 2013, and AAFP says physicians should continue their preparations and training. more...
