AAFP issues call to action on SGR repeal
Virtual lobby day this Thursday, March 19
Congress is considering legislation that will repeal the SGR, rather than enact yet another short-term patch. Read more about the legislation in this AAFP In the Trenches blog.
This Thursday, March 19, AAFP is hosting a virtual lobby day, asking family physicians to call their elected officials in Congress at (866) 629-5269 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CST. Let them know your location and you’ll be connected to your representative, at which point you can tell them your name, that you are a family doc practicing in Texas, and that you are an AAFP member who would like to see the SGR repealed. Find a Texas-specific talking point in this PDF on the economic impact on family physicians.
AAFP is also urging members to write their representatives in Congress, and tell them to repeal the SGR permanently. The Academy has made it easy for you to do so via the Speak Out tool.
Mentor medical students and strengthen the Texas physician workforce
For the last three years, TAFP has been running the Texas Statewide Family Medicine Preceptorship Program, matching students with physician preceptors to show them what real life as a family physician looks like. We are now looking for more physicians from all corners of the state to mentor medical students. Interested in being a preceptor? Contact Juleah Williams at firstname.lastname@example.org or (512) 329-8666 ext. 135. Read more about the preceptorship program.
Double your impact when you donate to the Student Interest Endowment in 2015
The TAFP Foundation started the Student Interest Endowment to fund scholarships for pre-clinical students participating in the preceptorship program. All donations made through the end of 2015 will be matched up to $100,000, so donate today!
