New certification needed to provide exams and medical certificates to interstate truck drivers
TAFP is co-sponsoring the required course on May 10
Physicians and other health care providers wishing to examine interstate truck drivers and issue medical certificates to them must now be certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Doctors currently examining truck drivers and wishing to continue to do so must go through a certification course and pass the exam by May 21, 2014. Examiners must also complete a refresher course every five years and pass a recertification test every 10 years.
To assist Texas physicians in getting certified, TAFP has partnered with the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians and the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants in presenting a certified medical examiners’ training course. The course will be held at the Texas Medical Association on Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
